Christmas is fast approaching and if you're still in need of some last minute inspiration look no further.
With my uni holidays starting at the end of October I decided I had no excuses not to have a bit of d.i.y fun for the holiday season so I made some gifts and fun little things.

First up was this Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub. I made a few batches and gave them out to many of my girl friends. Not only are they super easy, they smell divine and leave your skin so smooth!
To get them ready to give, I placed some Christmas fabric on the lid (I just used old jam jars) and tied with curling ribbon. I made a tag just in Microsoft Word with the shape tool and a text box - so easy! I also added a spoon because the oil settles in the bottom and the mixture needs a bit of a mix before you use it. I used parfait spoons because they are extra long so they reach the bottom of the jar without having to stick your hand halfway in the jar.
I also got some scented candles from my local dollar store so that my friends can enjoy a relaxing bath with their scrub!

To complement these I made some chocolate truffles which were so unbelievably delicious! Unfortunately in my hectic few weeks I have lost the recipe!
I just wrapped some in cellophane before adding them to the other items and wrapping them all in cellophane which I tied with curling ribbon.

So those were my d.i.y endeavours that actually worked pretty well. Some of the others did not have the same success.
Christmas tree cupcakes icing was too soft and did not hold the tree shape at all resulting in cupcakes with green icing.
My recipes in a jar turned out ok but nowhere near as good as the ones that you see on Pinterest, but what is important is the recipients loved them! The jars were very cute and I was overall happy with the look (except for the flour amongst the m & m's).

One that was halfway between failing and turning out perfectly were this cute little candy cane reindeers I tried. Again from Pinterest, I had to compromise a lot of the materials. Instead of brown pipecleaners I used brown paper for the body and I could not find the right size googly eyes anywhere so I ended up just drawing them on due to time constraints.
They were for some little kids that I know and they were very happy with them - especially a 3 year old girl who was so impressed she ran to show her mum and discuss how "silly" they looked. It was so cute.
So even though they didn't all work out perfectly, I did have a lot of fun trying these little gifts and such. Plus now I know how not to do them!
